Vignettes
VideoVignettes are brief views of a particular subject. I think of them as extended “snapshots”. Rather than freezing a still moment in time, I use time and space to explore the things, places and activities that have captured and held my attention. Typically these Video Vignettes are of a single continuous shot running between 15 to 90 seconds in length.
Sketchbooks
Video Sketchbooks are short video views of a particular subject. I think of them as screen “portraits” of my chosen subject. I use time, space and edited sequences of shots to emphasize distinctive characteristics of the subjects I am exploring. Typically, these Video Sketchbooks run between 1 to 3 minutes in length.
Picture Stories
Picture Stories include edited sequences my black and white documentary photographs and spoken word narratives arranged to share my thoughts, feelings and memories about a particular person, place, thing or experience. Typically, there will be one “key” photograph for emphasis but the piece may also include additional pictures to create a visual context to support my spoken word storytelling. Typically, these Picture Stories run between 3 to 8 minutes in length.
Documentaries
Video Documentaries are full scale programs about a particular subject and follow the customary journalistic form focusing on: Who, What, Why, Where, When? These documentaries include on location video, interviews, narration, ambient sound, graphic illustrations and whatever content I believe will help explain the subject of the documentary. Typically, these documentaries are long form pieces running 30 to 90 minutes in length.
Mixed Media Memoir
I am in the early stages of developing a new, expansive and rich form of story-telling for the screen which, I am calling - Mixed Media Memoir. At the core, the MMM programs I will be creating center on story telling excerpts drawn from recent and current video vignettes and documentaries, my earlier black and white photographic essays, thematic color photographic portfolios found in my 10 year Nature/Culture project archive. Along with my images the narrative content will include my spoken word monologues, field recordings when possible and atmospheric soundscapes I create during post production to compliment the visual documentary content.…
Projects
Project Videos are pieces created to explain an idea and goals related to new program initiative. They are not finished programs but but an informal intermediate stage a place to share works in progress with the purpose of informing individuals or organizations who may be interested in learning about the project I plan to create.
