Shared Spaces
I am currently in the process of selecting and printing photographs and editing video for my SHARED SPACES mixed media exhibition to be presented at the A.P.E. Gallery in Northampton, Massachusetts in October 2019. You’ll find a brief written description below about the theme supporting this project and exhibition.
I’ll be posting updates and brief vlogs about my goals and works in progress as this project develops.
SHARED SPACES
… heading off across America to make these photographs I chose the open road. I deliberately avoided visiting familiar iconic destinations. Instead, I travelled with an eye toward discovering places along the way where the built environment merged with the natural landscape…
The photographs and video pieces in this SHARED SPACES mixed media exhibition are works selected from The NATURE/CULTURE Project – my ten year [ 2008-2018] survey of American spaces and places found along the roadside across all regions of the country.
Although my NATURE/CULTURE Project photographs are of places void of people, I believe a human trace is visible in each picture and, with this in mind, I see my images of these spaces as social landscapes.
It is precisely the absence of people along with a sense of their presence, as seen in the marks, changes and artifacts left in the environment, I find most fascinating.
